Training

To prepare for our challenge we have decided to split our training in to four distinct categories. Firstly we must focus on our physical strength and fitness levels. Secondly we must hone our technical abilities to perfection…(starting with learning how to row!) Thirdly and very importantly will be our mental preparation. And finally must come our nutritional regime, without a specifically designed and regimented diet, much of the physical and mental preparation will be ineffective.

1. Physical
At such an early stage in race preparation, we are currently concentrating on muscular hypertrophy and endurance. We have separated our rowing, or cardiovascular, training from our muscular and central nervous system stimulation. We are currently following a programme popularised by coach Charles Poliquin, commonly known as German Volume Training (GVT). More details will follow…
2. Technical
We are in the process of organising our first aquatic outing on a rowing boat. You will be able to find the pictures of what I am sure will be an amusing day out on our ‘Gallery’ page very shortly.
3. Mental
Planning and preparing as much as possible for adapting to race conditions by experimenting with different shift/sleeping patterns.
4. Nutritional
In order to fuel or bodies for the level of training that will be required, we must supplement our diets with the correct levels of protein and carbohydrates at the correct times of day. A specific nutritional programme will be available shortly.

Although we will be updating this page as our training progresses, for a more detailed breakdown of our race preparation please become a member of our Land Crew, and you will be emailed monthly with photographs and statistics detailing the exact nature of our training.
